Jithen Arun: India’s Youngest Master Scuba Diver Makes Waves Globally

On this International Scuba Day, India beams with pride as Jithen Arun, a 12-year-old from Bengaluru renowned for his exceptional drumming talent, adds another feather to his cap. Jithen has accomplished the rare and prestigious title of Master Scuba Diver, becoming one of the youngest individuals worldwide to achieve this remarkable feat. Fewer than two percent of divers ever reach this level, showcasing Jithen’s exceptional dedication and skill.

Jithen’s journey to becoming a Master Scuba Diver began with his completion of the PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. These initial steps set the foundation for his impressive diving career.

To achieve the Master Scuba Diver rating, Jithen completed five PADI Specialty Diver courses. These courses include Drift Diver, Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver, Underwater Navigator, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Search and Recovery. Each course equipped him with unique skills and knowledge, enhancing his diving expertise.

In the Drift Diver course, Jithen learned to navigate underwater currents with ease, making his dives smoother and more controlled. The Enriched Air Diver course introduced Jithen to Nitrox, a type of air with less nitrogen, which allows for longer dives and shorter surface intervals. This advanced knowledge enables Jithen to maximize his underwater exploration time. As an Underwater Navigator, Jithen mastered the use of a diving compass and estimating distances underwater. His training in Peak Performance Buoyancy allows him to achieve perfect neutral buoyancy, hover effortlessly, and use the right amount of weight, conserving energy and protecting the underwater environment.

In the Search and Recovery course, Jithen learned to locate lost items underwater and use a lift bag for recovery. He also gained experience in planning and executing search operations, showcasing his problem-solving abilities.

Jithen’s training didn’t stop there. He also completed the Rescue Diver course, learning to assist other divers and handle minor gear issues. Additionally, as an Emergency First Response Provider, he is trained to perform CPR, provide first aid, and manage emergencies until professional help arrives.

Jithen’s love for the ocean and diving is evident in his commitment to the sport. He finds immense joy in the tranquillity and beauty of the underwater world. This passion drives him to explore advanced diving disciplines such as cave diving and wreck diving.

Jithen is also dedicated to marine conservation. He plans to contribute to research and underwater clean-up efforts, ensuring that the oceans remain beautiful and thriving for future generations.

On this International Scuba Day, Jithen Arun’s achievement is celebrated not just in India but around the world. His accomplishments are a source of immense pride for the country and showcase the remarkable potential and spirit of young divers in India. As he continues to pursue his passions, Jithen remains an inspiration to aspiring divers and marine conservationists globally.
