Jaguar Type 01
The Jaguar Type 01 signals a dramatic change for the British brand. This four-door electric grand tourer combines striking proportions with a claimed output of approximately 1,016 horsepower. Yet the bigger question goes beyond acceleration: can Jaguar turn its radical new identity into a convincing luxury car?
That’s what makes this reboot interesting. An expensive electric GT needs more than impressive numbers. It must make long journeys comfortable, charging stops manageable, and everyday driving feel worth the asking price.
A long bonnet, low roofline, and rear-set passenger compartment give the car an unmistakable silhouette. The proportions deliberately avoid the rounded, space-first appearance associated with many electric vehicles.
The styling also serves an aerodynamic purpose. Jaguar reports a drag coefficient of 0.23, supported by airflow management and a deployable rear spoiler. Less aerodynamic resistance can help an EV use energy more efficiently at speed.
Here’s the thing: this is a grand tourer with four doors, rather than a conventional family saloon. Its appeal rests partly on making ordinary journeys feel special. Whether that dramatic shape compromises access or visibility deserves attention during a proper showroom inspection.
The tri-motor powertrain produces up to 1,030 PS, equivalent to roughly 1,016 horsepower, alongside 1,365 Nm of torque. Jaguar claims a 0–62 mph time of 3.2 seconds and acceleration from 62 to 112 mph in four seconds.
That rolling acceleration figure matters to the GT brief. It points toward substantial performance once the car is already moving, rather than a specification sheet built entirely around standing starts.
Still, power doesn’t explain the whole driving experience. Accelerator response, brake modulation, steering feedback, and body control determine whether a powerful car feels satisfying or simply fast.
The Jaguar Type 01 needs to bring those qualities together. Until independent production-car tests establish how it behaves, its performance figures remain manufacturer claims.
An 850-volt electrical architecture and 118-kWh usable battery underpin an anticipated EPA range of up to 400 miles. Jaguar also quotes a projected WLTP figure of up to 450 miles. Neither should be mistaken for a guaranteed real-world distance.
EPA and WLTP use different testing procedures. Compare vehicles using the same standard, then consider the conditions in which the car will actually operate.
Motorway speed, cold weather, passenger load, and wheel choice can all influence consumption. For regular long-distance travel, the useful question is how comfortably the car covers the journey with a sensible charging reserve. That approach gives the projected range some practical meaning. A headline figure alone cannot describe winter motorway use or repeated high-speed driving.
Inside, the Jaguar Type 01 continues the exterior’s architectural approach. A central spine creates distinct occupant spaces, while brass-effect finishes introduce warmth. A 24-inch OLED display sits ahead of the driver, with a separate seven-inch central touchscreen handling common controls. It’s visually distinctive. Everyday usability needs closer examination.
Can the driver change temperature settings without searching through menus? Are the seats supportive after an hour? Does rear-seat access suit the people who will regularly travel there?
Those checks matter more than screen size. Buyers should also try their usual luggage and assess the cabin with all intended passengers aboard.
At this price, the ownership experience deserves as much scrutiny as the car itself. Check local servicing arrangements, warranty terms, home-charging requirements, and insurance quotations before placing an order.
Ask for charging performance across a complete stop, too. Peak charger output doesn’t tell the whole story; battery temperature and starting charge affect the result.
The Jaguar Type 01 makes a compelling first impression through design and engineering ambition. Its lasting appeal will depend on delivering comfort, control, and convenience together. That’s the real test of an electric grand tourer: making the miles enjoyable, rather than merely making them disappear quickly.
