Mittal Dharani, a dedicated Anganwadi Supervisor for over four years, oversees the functioning of 25 Anganwadis in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat. Her role is critical in ensuring that the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme of the Central Government reaches its beneficiaries effectively.
Originally from Jamnagar, Mittal holds a B.E. in Engineering. Despite her technical background, she chose to pivot her career towards working with children through the ICDS scheme. “The happiness derived from ensuring that the needs of the beneficiaries are met is the ultimate satisfaction in this job,” says Mittal.
Mittal’s journey intersected with Amitabh Shah founded Yuva Unstoppable in 2023 when the organization initiated the transformation of one of the Anganwadis under her supervision into a ‘Smart Anganwadi’. Recognizing the need for a safe and cheerful environment for all stakeholders, Yuva Unstoppable collaborated with the school authorities to revamp the Anganwadi.
‘Our mission is to transform Anganwadis into safe and cheerful spaces that facilitate the holistic development of children’, says Amitabh Shah.
Across the country, Anganwadis suffer from poor infrastructure due to the lack of government investment in equipment, maintenance, and upgradation. Yuva Unstoppable’s intervention aimed to address this issue by giving the Anganwadis a fresh look and providing essential facilities. The transformation included the addition of furniture, infrastructure improvement, and the provision of curriculum-based toys and equipment. This not only enhanced the visual appeal of the Anganwadis but also improved teaching levels, making the learning process more efficient and enjoyable for both children and teachers.
The introduction of visual aids has proven to be particularly advantageous for older children, enabling them to learn and retain information more effectively. As a result, children have started to enjoy coming to the Anganwadi, utilizing the space for their enjoyment and development.
The impact of Yuva Unstoppable’s intervention extends beyond the Anganwadi premises. Parents, impressed by the improvements, are now more inclined to enrol their children in government- funded Anganwadis rather than private schools. This shift underscores the success of efforts from Supervisors such as Mittal and Yuva Unstoppable in transforming Anganwadis into vibrant learning spaces that benefit the entire community.
‘Such partnerships have been instrumental in bringing positive change to Anganwadis, ensuring that they become centers of learning and growth for children’, signs of Amitabh Shah.
